Plant in full sun with the sprouts 1 to 2 inches below the surface of the soil. They like rich soil so fertilize when planted, again 3 weeks later and at the start of each season. Stalks can be cut after the first year. Divide every 3 years to keep plants producing a good crop of stalks each year.
