The story of this tomato starts in the 30's when the owner of a radiator shop was facing bankruptcy. Even though he was not a plant breeder, he tried breeding 4 varieties of tomatoes together and came up with this large, pink- skinned, tasty and meaty tomato. He sold 1,000 plants of this tomato for $1 each and was able to pay off the mortgage with the proceeds. Fruits average 2 lbs and have very few seeds.
