Great at ANY length - Fortex French Filet
Nov 30, 2023 | By Janet Wright
FORTEX French Filet pole bean is the ONLY bean we will grow now. Great yield and you can pick at any length over the 7" they said is maturity. Our record was 14" long but most we picked around 10-11". It is sooooo nice not to have to worry if you miss a few because whenever you find them they'll still be great to eat! We steam them and eat. You know when you leave a bean too long on the vine and it gets bulgy / starchy / stringy / beany? NOT THESE! These cook up and taste the same at ANY length! I also used the soil inoculant they sell, the Nature's Aid Inoculant for beans. I think it helped & will definitely use that each year too. I am in the PNW, Olympia, WA, a long way away from Vermont but they grew well for me. Here in the PNW we have a ton of spring rain and slugs, so I direct sowed then replaced maybe half that the slugs ate with seedlings I had started indoors. I ultimately had 12 plants planted in a row, spaced about 3 plants to 1'. 4' wide trellis (two trellises w/string in between) that was 6.5' tall. I'm no expert but just FYI. I thought it might be hard to see the beans (green beans, green foliage) but it was easy since they are long and a little wavy shaped. Little white flowers not showy, but you plant this bean to get lots of great beans to eat.
